Privacy Policy

This Privacy Policy describes how Takefumi Tomeda (“we”) collects, uses, shares, and protects information about users of the language-learning service “Pidgeon” (the “Service”). Please read this Policy carefully before using the Service. By using the Service, you agree to the practices described here.

Article 2 — Scope

This Policy applies to all information we obtain in connection with the Service. Third-party websites linked from the Service are governed by their own privacy policies, and we are not responsible for their content.

Article 3 — Information We Collect

Provided directly by you

  • Email address
  • Display name / nickname
  • Profile image
  • Learning languages (native / target)
  • Region / country of residence

Usage information

  • Usage history (total study time, session count, etc.)
  • Text message content (chat between users)

Voice communication

We collect connection metadata (start/end time, participants). Voice content is not recorded or stored.

Technical logs

IP address, device info (OS, model, browser), approximate location (country/region level), and access logs are collected as technical data. They are generally not linked to individual identity except when needed for support or security investigations.

Article 4 — How We Use Your Information

  • Account creation, authentication, and management
  • Providing language-learning features (voice calls, text messaging, study history)
  • Service improvement and new feature development
  • Security — detecting and preventing spam, unauthorized access, and abuse
  • Responding to law-enforcement requests and complying with legal obligations

Article 5 — Legal Basis

Article 6 — Children's Privacy

We do not knowingly collect information from users under 13. Users in South Korea must be 14 or older; users in Brazil must be 16 or older. If we learn we have collected data from a child below the applicable age, we will promptly delete it and suspend the account.

For users aged 13–17, we collect and use personal information only with parental or guardian consent. Parents/guardians may withdraw consent or request deletion through the contact in Article 1.

Article 7 — Sharing with Third Parties

We do not sell or share your personal information with third parties except:

  • With your explicit consent
  • As required by law
  • To protect life, body, or property when consent is impractical
  • In response to lawful requests from law enforcement or courts

Article 8 — Third-Party Services & SDKs

  • Firebase (Google LLC) — authentication, data storage, analytics, push notifications
  • Agora and similar SDKs — real-time voice calls (no recording by us)
  • Advertising SDKs — may be used in future; specific vendors will be disclosed at implementation

Each third-party service is governed by its own privacy policy.

Article 9 — International Data Transfers

The Service may transfer data to servers located outside Japan (including the EU and the US). We implement appropriate safeguards, such as standard contractual clauses, as required by applicable data-protection law.

Article 10 — Retention

We retain data only as long as necessary for the purposes described in this Policy. Text messages are kept for safety purposes (supporting reports and law-enforcement cooperation) for a limited period, then deleted or anonymized. Upon account deletion, we cease storing personally identifiable information within a reasonable period, except where required by law.

Subject to applicable law, you have the right to:

  • Rectify or update inaccurate data
  • Delete your data
  • Restrict or object to processing
  • Receive your data in a portable format (where applicable)

Article 12 — Security

We implement reasonable technical and organizational safeguards — including access controls, encryption, and log management — to protect your information against unauthorized access, loss, destruction, alteration, and disclosure. We review and improve these measures on an ongoing basis.

Article 13 — Cookies

We may use cookies and similar technologies to improve user experience and analyze usage. You can disable cookies in your browser settings, though some features may not work as intended. Users in the EEA and other regions that require explicit consent will be presented with a cookie banner.

Article 14 — Changes to this Policy

We may update this Policy to reflect changes in law or the Service. For material changes, we will notify you in the Service or by other appropriate means in advance. Continued use of the Service after a change constitutes acceptance of the updated Policy.
